Gushing Prayer, a Japanese pinku film follows high-school student Yasuko who is already a jaded sexual veteran. Yasuko embarks on an odyssey of self-discovery to find out the true reasons for her dissatisfaction and total desensitization. Things take a bleak turn when she is driven by the encouragement of her peers to feel what it is like to be a sex worker and “beat” the construct of sex as the teens strive to liberate themselves from a corrupt adult society.
A countercultural exploration of youth sexuality that seeks to break apart taboos, (think what would have inspired Larry Clark when creating Ken Park or KIDS); Gushing Prayer is an act of pure cinematic resistance. Bold, arthouse erotica crafted by the fascinating Masao Adachi who has brought us films like A Woman In Revolt, Birth Control Revolution, and Datai.
